How to use Rotate PDF

  1. Upload your PDF

Click to upload or drag and drop a PDF file. Multi-page PDFs are supported. The tool shows a thumbnail preview of each page.

  2. Select which pages to rotate

Click individual page thumbnails to select specific pages, or click 'Select All' to rotate every page. Mixed-orientation PDFs (some landscape, some portrait) can be fixed page by page.

  3. Choose the rotation angle

Click 90° CW (clockwise), 90° CCW (counter-clockwise), or 180° to flip upside-down. The thumbnails update immediately to preview the rotation.

  4. Download the rotated PDF

Click Download. The new PDF saves with rotation applied. File size remains approximately the same — rotation only changes view orientation metadata, not page content.

Who uses Rotate PDF?

Common real-world scenarios where this tool saves time.

Office workers handling scanned documents

Fix incorrectly oriented scans

Scanned documents are often saved sideways or upside down. Rotating pages in the PDF is faster than re-scanning and avoids reprinting.

Students and academics

Correct PDF orientation before submission

Smartphone-scanned notes or photos saved as PDF often have rotation errors. Fixing orientation before submission prevents the reviewer from needing to rotate their screen.

Office managers and administrators

Prepare PDFs for printing or archiving

Ensure all pages in a PDF have consistent orientation before printing to prevent misorientated pages in the physical output.

Rotate PDF examples

Fix an upside-down scanned document

Input

Scanned letter.pdf — pages appear upside-down (rotated 180°)

Output

letter-rotated.pdf — all pages right-side up

Flatbed scanners sometimes feed pages upside down. Rotating all pages 180° corrects the orientation without re-scanning.

Fix mixed portrait/landscape PDF

Input

report.pdf — page 3 is landscape, rest are portrait

Output

report-fixed.pdf — page 3 rotated 90° to match portrait orientation

Select only page 3 and rotate 90° CW or CCW to bring the landscape page to portrait. The other pages are untouched.

Common mistakes to avoid

Rotating the wrong pages in a mixed-orientation PDF

Use thumbnails to select only sideways pages—leave correctly oriented pages unselected.

Expecting smaller file size after rotation

Rotation changes view orientation metadata only; use Compress PDF if you need a smaller file.

Troubleshooting

Downloaded PDF still looks sideways in one viewer

Likely cause: Some viewers cache the old file or ignore rotation metadata.

Fix: Open the new download in a different reader, or close and reopen the file to confirm the saved rotation.

Cannot select individual pages

Likely cause: Very large PDFs may still be loading thumbnails.

Fix: Wait for all page previews to render, then click thumbnails again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does rotating a PDF reduce quality?

No. PDF rotation changes only the page orientation metadata — it does not re-render or recompress page content. Text remains as vector text, and images are not re-encoded. The file size stays the same.

Can I rotate just one page in a multi-page PDF?

Yes. Select only the pages you want to rotate by clicking their thumbnails. Other pages remain at their original orientation.

What is the difference between 90° CW and 90° CCW?

90° CW (clockwise) turns the page so the left edge becomes the bottom — a landscape page tilted right becomes portrait right-side-up. 90° CCW (counter-clockwise) turns the page so the right edge becomes the bottom — useful for pages that were scanned sideways in the opposite direction.

Is the rotation permanent?

The rotation is saved into the downloaded PDF. The original file you uploaded is not modified (your local file is unchanged). If you need to undo the rotation, rotate the downloaded file in the opposite direction.
